Research through my major project

 I will use as editor for my final project the Pixlr and experience to use Gimp, because i will need to edit my fashion design collection drawings in a way to create my portfolio pages.

I will also use the Pantone web site as reference for my color research ( I already posted about that in a previous blog post).

I will explore and experiment modify my drawings or turn them into digital with my graphic table but it is an idea in standby because it will be the first time that i am going to use it.

After experiment all the tools i will decide what i am going to use and how i am going to use to realize my major project.

Research Into My Final Project

it's an action who continues to fish and trap animals, entangle and potentially kill marine life, smother habitat, and act as a hazard to navigation. Derelict fishing gear, such as nets or traps and pots, is one of the main types of debris impacting the marine environment today. 

After understanding the facts that ghost fishing have today, my project is based on these points to try alert about the problem in a allusive way

Research Class Exercise

 Now, i am going to talk about one of the most important researches i had to do for my final project because i needed to learn more about Fashion trends, designers and glossary. 

I started to search about Vogue site in the google and click in the main vogue site and next in the British Vogue, looking carefully in the Fashion, trends and runaway separators to try justify and substantiate my choices in the major project.

After go through all the site i discovered that i had so much to learn such as the technique names alphabetically, spring\summer trends from the last years and then i started thinking in my project in a different way. I discovered that i had to do the connection between the last years trends with my project. 

Experience with Lucidpress

 I decided experiment the Lucidpress to do a cover for the presentation of my Major project.

I went to the site and choose a template.

I take a look to the tools and decided to use the same colors a use in my previous color research, using the color code and reference for my lettering cover.

These colors will be present in my Fashion collection, so i decided use them to give a harmonious connection with the theme 

For the lettering, i had to change the opacity by putting in 100% because the background i chose have a lot of detail.

After trying three different backgrounds i chose this one because the colors are very similar with the colors i want to use and remits very well for "Ghost Fishing"

Contact Me Wix

 I started to do my contact me page on my website, the first thing to do was change the template by deleting some information and cleaning the page to put my information

The template had shop localizations, so i had to change in to put in a more appropriate way for my purpose.

I started to write the details and change the background to a dark one.

The writing was in Portuguese so i put everything in English.

After writing everything and change the colors of my "contact me" page, it looks like the image below.

About me Wix

 After create my Website, i took a closer look on the side bar and had to modify the template order, putting the "About me" section after the first page.

Then, i changed the colors and did some others alterations.

I put the background black and the letters in white.

After all this be as i wanted, i started to write about myself based with i learn in Digital Art classes.

After finish the page I decided put one photo of mine as a background.

It is an Website builder that provides customizable templates and include apps, graphics, fonts and images.

I had to use Wix to create an online website where I'm going to use as my online portfolio for my final project.

I tried to put the site in English but i was not able to. 

So, i started to click in choose a template after the registration with my digital art email

The site asked me which type of site i wanted to create and i searched about Fashion Design templates.

The one i chose was what is represented in the image below

I started to modify the background by choosing an image, i chose that one because is the only one i have that seems more appropriate for my site because the background is solid black. The next thing to do was exploring the tools to give the appearance i wanted based on my site research.

The letters AD are the acronyms for Arts and Design portfolio.

I changed the lettering in "portfolio" to look the same as the lettering of my name and put it in bolt.

In meantime i decided to try another template and modify it and choose the most appropriate, it was the image above.

The Last thing to do was save my site and continue working on "about me" section.

 I started to research about Fashion magazines and understand the page design and how is the communication with the viewer to be appealing. 

Being Fashion is an aesthetic expression and according to sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, fashion connotes "the latest difference"

Elle

Elle, origin in France, is a worldwide lifestyle magazine focused on fashion, health, beauty and entertainment, it was founded by Hélène Gordon-Lazareff and her husband Pierre Lazareff in 1945 after the World War II.

The magazine was sold for the first time as supplement of France-Soir edited by Pierre Lazareff, after that Hélène made a publication about the the life of French women in 1945, France, because the right to vote was won being a growing movement in the feminine movement.

The first thing when I entered the site was to put in UK edition

After that, i observed carefully the cover and i can say that is one of the most important parts, because the design have to be attractive, because is the first contact the reader will have with the site, for example i can notice that the most magazines and sites are using the same rule in the cover design, which contains a background picture, the portrait of a Fashion Icon, a model or a celebrity.

 they use different photography techniques to be very catchy and to make the audience curious about it.

I opened the menu and clicked in "Fashion"

I can analyze that for Fashion magazines the content is really important, it have to be catchy to grab the attention of the people who see because the readers are always looking for something new, so it should try to rise above their expectations. I can see the focus on the latest trends of the season and presented in a creative and clean way.

After observing the structure of the layout, i can see that it have to have an attractive headline and placed at the top of the page to grab the attention it deserves.

Have to bigger than the rest of the text for the reader (in this case me) know which one is the most important like hierarchy for the different blocks of the content.

After search more articles and see the structure, i can say that the Intro captures the attention of the reader and creates a strong connection between the headline and body text. The size of the intro should be smaller than the headline and bigger than the body copy.

We can see clearly in this exemple below that the body copy represents the largest part of the article. 

In my site i already know that i have to set the right size of margins, columns and the text it self, because the readability of the article or of the page depends on this.

I can notice too the Pull Quotes are very trendy and used in the most of the articles, they are an very attractive Fashion magazine design element and i can use the freedom to play with when i will write on my site.

In the picture above i can talk about the fonts, i can see in the Elle site that it is written in an elegant serif type face and is used in every page of the site because represents the brand.

In my site i have to be conscious about what font i'm going to choose because has to be chosen determined by the target audience, we can see here in Elle that the target is young women because is known as the dynamic audience so the type face have a fancy aspect.

In the last image i can analyze the color palette, because represents an important element in design, so the site colors used should be tones to create harmony or in a contrasting combination to give a different feeling.

 Exploring Color Pallets

I decided explore colos pallets in a web site called "coolors" 

After research about the colors i had in mind, where it referred to the theme of ocean and the color of fishing nets.

I went to the section about tending color palettes

After that, i went to experience the color generator and mix colors with the site tools.

I mix the principal color in different shades, experience the brightness and negatives to understand better the color shade i can use in my project.

The final pallet i choose was the image below.

Using Pantone and Color Research

After my first color idea, i decided to use the Pantone web site that it is known worldwide for its color system, widely used in the graphic industry.

I started to search about fashion color trends, that they expect see in spring\summer collection 2021 in London fashion week

Major Project Research

 Ghost Sea

 In my Country i used to live near the beach. being important to me preserve the oceans.

Last summer i spent my time working at the beach and i saw many devastating situations that really opened my eyes, for example i saw baby sharks, starfish, sea urchins and many marine species killed in vain because of fishing nets.

I searched about Ghost Fishing and the environmental impact due the decomposition time that this equipment delay to decompose.

What is Ghost Fishing?

is a term that describes what happens when fishing equipment are lost in the sea, Phantom nets are fishing nets that have been left or lost in the ocean by fishermen. These nets, usually almost invisible in low light, can be left and go to the open sea being one of the biggest killers of marine life.

As my continuation route is Fashion Design, i want to explore this theme and use to do a Fashion serie or collection with fishing nets and plastic ropes to sensitize the people about what really is happening in an impactful way.

Research 

I started to search one of my favorite Fashion Designers, Alexander Mcqueen and chose one of his collections as a base.

Alexander Mcqueen "Alien Sea Creatures" in Paris Fashion Week (2009)

I searched about another collection, from 2012 because is about the sea and he used for example a color palette translucent like the inside of a shell referring to an underwater magic.

What i want to transmit and impact is what really goes in underwater, i want not just show the beauty but the darkness and the real life to alert people in a artistic way.
